| On October 7, 1948, at the opening of the Paris Automobile Salon, the 2CV is presented to the president of the French Republic, the Ministers and other high positioned men that attend the highest authority of the State. In his stand the 2CV is waiting and, hidden from the eye by a cover, appeals an enormous curiosity. This is the first car Citroën introduces since the appearance of the Traction Avant in 1934. Before the eyes of the official guests the 2CV is slowly unveiled and from all sides sounds of amazing can be heard. All is new,remarkable and unusual to this car. The form, equipment and the design in entire form are all very intrigueing. Everybody wants to try the exceptional flexibility of the springs and the comfort of the "hammock" chairs. The bewilderd official persons is given an explanation about the purpose of the car: to accomplish a serving function, the motto for the 2CV is being explained: for everybody and anything. The originality of the car confuses most of the visitors of the Automobile Salon, people don't realise that this Paris manifestation is a historic event. |
