| On a lovely day in 1959 a 27.000 tons aircraft-carrier cruises off the English coast. It's the "Bulwark", the pride of Her Majesty's Navy. On board hundreds of man are busy in a complete order, they manoeuvre by order of whistle-signals. British Admirality is testing disembarking by air. The goal is to reach a target 150 kms. inland from the aircraft-carriers. Such an operation requires material that is light, very strong and tractable at the same time. In a row, cornered on the deck, not far from the starting point of the helicopters and a group of marines in war uniform, sixteen 2CV's are waiting patiently. One by one they are attached to a hawser and at a signal every helicopter lifts a 2CV into the air. On the way to adventure! A 2CV floats to the target. But only on the end of the airtrip, after a sometimes rough landing, the hard part of the task starts: making its way under all circumstances, advancing sparing no pain nor expense, passing through everywhere! The Royal Navy tested the 2CV and took note of this car's performances and its unbelievable solidity, and the 2CV passed the test for military service. So the 2CV earned a place among the élite corps of the British Navy: the Royal Navy Commando's. |
