THE 2CV TRIUMPHS IN ARGENTINE'S GRAND-PRIX
The International Grand-Prix of Argentine is one of the heaviest ralleys in the world. This fight stretches over a 5000 kms. distance over plains and mountains, and requires a constant strain from the drivers. Non asphalted roads, where because of the dust you can only see a few metres, where rock, holes, deep pits, gully's, cartracks, "washboards", form all kinds of obstacles that you cannot underrate. Every year there's a slaughter under the participants' shock-absorbers; exhausts fall off, brakes burn, radiators explode, engines stop; deadly exhausted drivers fall asleep behind the wheel and stray from the road. 1961's Race knew many victims: only 44 of the 207 started cars finished. Among these 44: four 2CV's. Four 2CV's from Argentine origin that had started quietly, driven the race quietly and finished quietly, their average speed very simular (the first car drove the 4437 kms. with an average speed of 76,20 km/h, the fourth with an avarage of 74,26 km/h). Citroën was the only make where 100% of the entered cars finished, and there where sporting cars and Gran Tourismo's failed, the 2CV presented again his great endurance, his good driveability, his extraordinairy solidity.
