after I started collecting Citroën scale models, I owned a Citroën
who was very unfamiliar to me: I never saw one on the road and that stayed
the same until now. This scale model was one from the cheap Majorette series
on a scale of about 1:64, on the bottom it said: "Citroën GS Camargue".
It still must be around somewhere in a cardboard box, I'll start a search
party.
And now, when I bought the car-magazine "Onschatbare Klassieker Magazine" of December 1998 because of a 4 page article about the 2CV-AZ, and have a further look in the magazine, I find these pictures of the Camargue illustrating an article in the series "Styling Studie" written by Tonny Rol. A short summary: The Citroën Cmargue is a 2+2 Coupé built on the basis of a GS. It was exposed on the Autosalon Genève (Switserland) 1972 for the first time, and after that on 2 other Car Shows. It was built by the Italian designer Bertone, who also designed several other mass-produced Citroëns. The exotic name comes from the region in the South of France in the Rhone-delta. If it would be pleasant to drive in this very sunny region with this almost totally glass covered car should be the question.... Hans Tacq

snel nadat ik in de zeventiger jaren begon met verzamelen van Citroën
model auto's, had ik een Citroën in mijn verzameling die mij geheel
onbekend voorkwam, dat wil zeggen, ik had hem nog nooit op de weg gezien,
en tot op heden nog steeds niet. Deze modelauto was van Majorette geloof
ik, uit een serie goedkope modellen op kleine schaal, onderop stond "Citroën
GS Camargue". Ik moet hem nog steeds ergens in een doos hebben, ik zal
eens zoeken.
En dan nu, ik koop een tijdschrift "Onschatbare Klassieker Magazine" van December 1998 omdat er een artikel van 4 pagina's over de 2CV-AZ in staat, en ik blader eens verder door, kom ik foto's tegen van de Camargue bij een artikel onder het hoofdstuk: "Styling Studie" geschreven door Tonny Rol. Een korte samenvatting: De Citroën Camargue is een 2+2 Coupé gebouwd op het onderstel van de GS. Hij werd voor het eerste in 1972 geëxposeerd op de Autosalon van Genève (Zwitserland), en later op nog twee andere Autoshows. Hij is gebouwd door de Italiaanse ontwerper Bertone, die ook diverse andere - wel in productie genomen - Citroëns heeft ontworpen. De enigzins exotische naam verwijst naar de streek in Zuid-Frankrijk in de Rhone-delta. Of je daar ook prettig in die zonnige streek zou rondrijden met deze auto met zeer veel glas is natuurlijk nog maar de vraag.... Hans Tacq, 12 december 1998 nog een aantal foto's... |

car still exists, this can be concluded from the next mail by André
Pol (Citroën Andre):
"Last time we saw the Camargue was in one of the underground warehouses of Citroen in Paris. It was parked about 5 cars away from the TAP ralley DS and next to a 6 cyl. CX 3.0 Ltr." |
Dat de Camargue niet is vernietigd blijkt uit de volgende e-mail van André Pol (Citroën Andre): "De laatste keer dat wij de Camargue zagen, was in een van de ondergrondse pakhuizen van Citroen in Parijs. Hij stond geparkeerd ongeveer 5 auto's vanaf de TAP rallye DS, naast een 6 cylinder CX 3.0 Ltr." |
